Maren Marine is run by reefers — people who'd otherwise be elbow-deep in a sump dialing in a skimmer. We sell the equipment we run on our own tanks, skip the gear we wouldn't, and write every product page the way we'd explain it to a friend at the local fish store: honest, plain, no hype.
How this started
It started with our own tanks: late nights chasing a nuisance algae bloom, dialing in a protein skimmer (the gear that strips dissolved waste out of saltwater before it breaks down), and learning the hard way which equipment actually holds up. After enough of that, a pattern got hard to ignore — most reef-keeping problems start as buying problems. People arrive with the wrong gear, often too much of it, sold by a spec sheet nobody bothered to translate.
So we built the store we kept wishing existed: equipment chosen because it works, prices that reward building a complete system, and product pages that tell you who each piece is for — and who should skip it. Equipment only, by the way — we don't sell livestock. No fish, no coral. Only the gear that keeps them alive.
Everything in the catalog has run on one of our tanks. The numbers we publish come from the manufacturer's specs and our own use, in that order. When the honest answer is the cheaper part, that's the answer you get.
